Harvey L. Kennedy is a partner in the law firm of Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy and Kennedy, LLP in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1974 with highest honors, where he was a Morehead Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1977, he graduated from Harvard Law School, where he was a Leopold Shepp Scholar. He concentrates his practice in the areas of sexual harassment, wrongful discharge from employment, retaliatory discharge, medical malpractice, wrongful death and personal injury litigation. He has practiced law in North Carolina since 1977.
Harvey is a member of the United States Supreme Court Historical Society, the National Bar Association, the American Association for Justice (AAJ), the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ), the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers, the State Bar of North Carolina, the Forsyth County Bar Association and the Winston-Salem Bar Association.
Harvey is a former President of the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers, and he was honored as Lawyer of the Year by that organization in 1988. He has an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell and he is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Labor and Employment Law. Harvey is also listed in Top Lawyers in North Carolina. He is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Harvey litigates major civil cases throughout the state of North Carolina.
Harvey has been involved in community and civic affairs. He was formerly Chairman of the Winston-Salem Urban League and was on the National Board of Trustees of the National Urban League. He was formerly a member of the UNC-CH Board of Visitors, the Board of Directors of the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Children's Center, and the Winston-Salem State University Foundation Board. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the National Black Theatre Festival. He is a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, and formerly served on its Vestry. Harvey is currently on the Board of Directors of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Fund, and he is a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity.
